Some would like the game to not have combat at all but I think that would fundamentally change the game as combat is part of the RNG penalties among other things. I didn't hate the fact that combat exists and found it to play an important role in your decision making. I am fine with being punished for making mistakes on the board as that's where all the depth is but it's no fun dying in combat. The combat is definitely not the strongest part of the game and if not for their being an easy option for combat my opinion of this game would have been quite different. There is your turn based boardgame and real time combat. The game is basically divided in 2 very different styles of gameplay. There is a proper campaign here divided in several chapters and death only means restarting the chapter not the campaign. I am not a fan of roguelike games and this doesn't change that. This game is also tagged as a "roguelike" but I am not sure I understand what that is supposed to mean. I don't think I have played a standalone deck building game before but never liked those sort of mini games in other games. ![]() Definitely full marks for the first impression. The opening presentation is mysterious and inviting with its dark thick atmosphere. So right off the bat this game signifies the importance of a great intro theme. ![]() Anyways I hope this doesn't become a talking point here and I am only mentioning it because it is kinda important in the context of discovering a new genre. I have said negative things about EGS in the past but this definitely is a moment for changing perspective. I had claimed this game for free on EGS sometime ago which is important as I normally wouldn't have considered something like this.
